Creative workshops combining robotics and… baking!

The programme for Saturday 23 May promises to be particularly rich and varied. Throughout the day, there will be 34 workshops focusing on games, activities and storytelling designed for all ages. Activities for younger children include those related to art, storytelling, robotics, the history of mathematics, nature, dance, comics and even baking. There will also be opportunities to try out various types of strategy games, as well as sensory, motor and hands-on activities. For older children, there will be workshops on cryptography, how to build a turbine, art, magic, origami and much more. For the curious or enthusiasts, it will also be possible to play a game of chess with beginners or professionals.
 

Shows for all ages

The day will also be enriched by six shows aimed at all ages. For the little ones, there will be The Best of: A World of Shapes, a show produced in collaboration with RSI Kids; Sofia’s Emotions, a show to help children recognise their emotions when tackling maths; The Science Juggler, focusing on the secrets of juggling for younger children; and the show StellA, an Alien in Maths, based on a children’s book that has just been published. For older children, there will be the show <=> Less, Equal, Greater, centred on scientific experiments; the day will conclude with Dreaming Physics, a juggling show halfway between mathematics and physics.

The events of the Matematicando festival will take place throughout the streets of Locarno, mainly in Piazza Grande, at the Department of Education and Learning / University of Teacher Education, at the PalaCinema and in other venues across the city.

The event will go ahead whatever the weather. Admission is free and no registration is required.
