Moodity
SUPSI Image Focus
Representing the invisible of the city to depict its mood was the challenge the student took up to develop his thesis project. The environment we live in has a strong impact on our emotionality, creativity and mental psyche, is it conceivable that it also has its own defined mood?
The idea of this project is to identify the invisible factors hidden within urban cores that can determine the state of mind of such a complex concrete organism as towns and cities. The project starts with the intention of using today's media and technologies. In an initial research phase, the student realised that the invisible is everything we do not see but perceive, but it is also anything that is too complex to be apprehended by the mind without the external aid of tools or machines. During his research, he analysed the urban environment, looked for a clear definition of the term 'mood' and finally defined the topic of information design. He then looked at systems such as smart cities and the big data they collect, the internet of things, APIs, 3D printing and much more to proceed with the development of the artefact.
Moodity is therefore an experimental project that aims at the synthetic restitution of a mood through the representation of the invisible present in cities. The first artefact is an itinerant installation which, with the aid of an electronic system, makes it possible to visualise information on the variables analysed using air as the main medium. The second artefact is a web-app that collects and manages the information. Finally, the third is a book that acts as a meeting point between digital and paper with the function of archiving the visual results obtained. Moodity is therefore a broad project that touches on areas such as graphic design, interaction design, web and industrial design.
