Practice to get out of the academic bubble

Lorenzo is a Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) student with a profile in Computer Science. He decided to pursue this path after his Bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering and, thanks to his thesis, was able to confront a concrete business reality.
What do your education at the Department of Innovative Technologies (DTI) and how would you describe your programme?
After earning a full-time Bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering, I decided to continue my studies through a part-time Master's degree in Computer Science oriented toward blockchain development.
If I had to describe my academic journey, I would say:
- Stimulating because the university environment allows you thanks to a number of factors, including classmates, professors and proposed projects, to always discover new information;
- Comprehensive because during the Bachelor's degree you delve into numerous technologies in different fields. This allows you to gain knowledge and get a clearer idea about the areas of interest and then choose your Master's specialization;
- Customizable because during the Bachelor's program, but even more so during the Master's program, there is the possibility of choosing the courses to take and therefore subjects on which to specialize.
What is the strongpoint of your course?
The advantages of DTI education are many, the main one being undoubtedly the correlation between theory and practice. In a field like computer science, where trying concepts in practice and verifying the result is quick and easy, a proper correlation between theoretical study and practical implementation is the key to training competent people. In my experience, DTI invests heavily in this, and the results show. Part-time Master's education also offers a dual benefit: deepening academic knowledge and gaining professional experience, making the student highly in demand within the job market.
What are your goals for the future?
Definitely continue to train and specialize, a value that was also passed down to me during my studies, and go to work in a large IT company and then in the future maybe open something of my own.
Is there a particularly significant experience you would like to tell us about?
During my thesis work, carried out in collaboration with a local company, I had the opportunity to confront a real situation and project. This allowed me to verify the technologies and notions actually applied in a company, getting out of the academic "bubble" and experiencing the working reality.
