What is your career path after your Bachelor's degree in nursing?
After obtaining my Bachelor's degree, I started working as a nurse at a Spitex (home care service) in the Lugano area, while at the same time managing the commercial side of a company that operated in the healthcare device supply sector. In September 2021, I opened my own Spitex where I still work and am Medical Director. At the same time I carry out innovative healthcare projects in the region, devoting part of my time to collaborating with SUPSI.
How important was the Bachelor's degree in preparing you for the challenges of the world of work and for the role you currently hold?
The Bachelor's degree has helped me greatly in developing my personal sphere, which has led to professional growth. The dynamism and evidence-based theory learnt during my studies are the core on which I impose the home care service I manage. This allowed me to build a flexible and enterprising attitude towards the continuous search for solutions.
What elements did you particularly appreciate about the Bachelor's degree?
I really appreciated the 'Epistemology of Care' module and what it entails: it allowed me to develop my personality, both as a person and as a professional, giving a broader view of the nursing role. The scientific concepts were also fundamental in providing completeness to my education.
In addition to your 'field' activities, you collaborate in some of the Bachelor's teaching activities: what do you do?
I currently collaborate in the modules 'Epistemology of care' and 'Personal and professional development programme '.
In the Epistemology module, I contribute to the lectures for nurses, occupational therapists and physiotherapists by sharing experiences in the field and offering reflections on the care professions.
As far as Personal Development is concerned, we are structuring the content of the module with some teachers.
Do you plan to be back in the classroom as a student again in a few years?
I would like to attend the Master's in Nursing to expand my professional skills in advanced nursing practice.
Why would you recommend the Bachelor's Degree in Nursing?
I am a great believer in the philosophy of nursing with a university approach, as the shared contents give the possibility to build and adopt a concept of the practice of nursing that can persist and endure within a system influenced by the standardisation process. In this sense the SUPSI Bachelor's Degree in Nursing responds precisely to this need.
