The SUPSI Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering is based on a strong blend of theoretical and practical elements.
 
The course trains professionals with in-depth knowledge in the technical and methodological areas related to the design and development of software systems, as well as systemmanagement in the field of information and communication technology (ICT).  

Thanks to the knowledge of established technologies and methods, the outgoing professional profile is able to analyse situations, manage their complexity and implement appropriate and innovative solutions to a wide range of problems in industry and services.

The professional profile upon leaving the Bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering is equipped with solid basic skills in the field of information technology coupled with social, communication, economic and entrepreneurial skills to foster employability and the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.

The profiles aim to deepen a subject area and complement the generalist skills acquired in previous years. Deals with the fundamentals of real-time computer graphics and game applications based on game engines and metaverse, ranging from the design and use of GPU-accelerated rendering systems to their use in virtual environments via 3D viewers.

Trains competent professionals in cybersecurity, providing methodologies and tools for its application in the corporate sector in the areas of cybersecurity, security methodologies and privacy by design, with solid notions for an evolution towards concepts related to technological crime, cyber threat intelligence, complex distributed systems and cloud.

Introduces knowledge, concepts and techniques related to methods, tools and technologies of data science and machine learning. In addition to the topics of classification, regression, clustering and application of deep learning, including the possibility of using and exploring technologies and applications in natural language processing.

Web and mobiles applications

It complements and deepens the core skills already covered in previous semesters and required to develop web and mobile application solutions. Considering server-side and client-side application design, it focuses on the basic elements and technologies useful to understand the working principles of different existing frameworks and development tools.

  • Theory and practice

    The study course has a strong practical and vocational orientation with numerous exercises and laboratory activities accompanying the theoretical classroom lectures. 

  • International mobility

    It is possible to spend part of the university course in another country by prior agreement with the Course Leader.

  • Theses and projects

    Semester and diploma projects are carried out in cooperation with local companies and institutions. 

  • Language

    The courses are taught predominantly in Italian; some subjects in the advanced semesters may be offered in English upon reaching the required level.

The Bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering provides for 180 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System).
 
ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) is the European system for the recognition, transfer and accumulation of educational credits. One ECTS credit corresponds to a workload of approximately 30 hours. One academic year usually corresponds to 60 ECTS credits (1800 working hours).
 

The course involves weekly attendance with four days in the classroom and one day remotely.
The course lasts for 3 years.

SUPSI Image Focus

It is aimed at those who wish to maintain their professional employment. However, it is required to reduce work activity to at least 80 percent.

The course involves online attendance two evenings a week plus a full day (Friday) in-person. The course lasts for 4 years.

SUPSI Image Focus

It is aimed at elite sportsmen and sportswomen and those with family, artistic and military commitments, and offers the possibility of flexibly constructing one's training curriculum on the basis of the courses provided in the two other modes (full-time and parallel to the profession). At the beginning of each semester, the student plans her/his timetable with the course leader.

Registration for the academic year 2024-2025 opens on 20 November 2023.

The application for admission is submitted exclusively by following the online procedure available on the SUPSI Student Portal.
Registration is possible if you meet one of the following requirements:
  • vocational baccalaureate and Federal VET Diploma in a profession related to the chosen study programme. Foreign diplomas from institutions equivalent to the vocational baccalaureate in a profession related to the chosen study programme are recognised;
  • federally recognised baccalaureate or foreign baccalaureate. Enrolment is permitted by choosing the Assisted Practice Year (APA) access mode during the online application process. The secretariat will contact the candidate(s) for further details on how the practice will be conducted;
  • ST technician or degree from another specialised high school related to the study programme;
  •  age over 25 with proven training and significant experience in the field of university subjects (admission on dossier).

In possession of a high school diploma (federal/foreign recognised), access to the Bachelor's degree course in Computer Science Engineering is permitted after completion of a practical internship (Assisted Practical Year).

For the Bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering, the supervised practicum year is available as follows:
  • 6 months of theoretical training at the Department of Innovative Technologies + 6 months of practical training at the laboratories of the Department of Innovative Technologies;
  • 6 months of theoretical training at the Department of Innovative Technologies + 6 months of practical training at a company in a related field to the chosen degree program. The company search is the responsibility of the student(s);
  • 12 months of internship in a company performing tasks related to the chosen major. The company search is the responsibility of the student(s)/student(s).

To submit your application for admission, you must have a Switch edu-ID account. If you already have one you can log into the SUPSI Student Portal with your credentials, otherwise follow the procedure described below.

To create the account you need to enter:
  • first and last name;
  • address;
  • email (do not use email addresses granted by other schools and active for a limited time);

After agreeing to the terms and conditions, a user account is created and a link sent to the given email address.

To activate the account, you must click on the link in the email and log in to Switch edu-ID for the first time. Once the account is active, you will be able to access the SUPSI Student Portal to submit your application for admission.

Application fee
A fee of CHF 200 is required with the submission of the application for admission. The fee is not refundable or deductible from the semester fee.

After May 31, 2023, it is possible to enroll subject to available places and by paying a fee of CHF 300.-. SUPSI reserves the right to close enrollment if the maximum number of scheduled available places is reached.
 
Administrative and logistical costs

CHF 150 .– per semester.
