Trame di cura - Care Narratives, the 19th edition of Iride, a journal of economics, health, and social issues, was published in November and is dedicated to the theme of care approached from different perspectives.
Care plays a fundamental role in contemporary society, even if the most visible effects are perhaps those caused by the absence of care. In her book entitled “Matters of Care: Speculative Ethics in More than Human Worlds” (University of Minnesota Press, 2017), feminist philosopher Maria Puig de la Bellacasa asks what care is: an emotional relationship? A moral obligation? A job? A burden? A joy? An art that we can learn or practice? Something we just do?
Care means all these things, and it means different things to different people in different situations. “Care is a human affair, but it is not exclusively human; it encompasses everything we do to maintain, give continuity to, and repair ‘our world’ so that we can live in it in the best possible way.”
The authors who contributed to this issue of Iride, all professors, lecturers, and researchers at DEASS, offer us precisely this multiplicity of perspectives: ranging from caring for people in prisons to caring for urban spaces, from caring for animal health and the planet to caring for nursing education and caregivers themselves, from the beauty that heals to the economics of care. The publication is enriched by an insert by Professor of Urban Planning Elena Granata, as well as an interview with ADiCASI President John Gaffuri.
This and all issues are available at the dedicated website.
