Born out of a collaboration between the Research Division of the Department of Education and Learning / University of Teacher Education and Brazilian and Chilean academic partners, the SOUNDscapes for INclusive Navigation (SOUND-IN) project considers spatiality as the result of interactions between humans and the environment and applies the Universal Design for Learning educational approach and participatory methods.
During the project, a spatial exploration prototype will be jointly designed and tested through two workshops: one in Brazil and Chile, which includes fieldwork and co-design sessions, and one in Switzerland, to adapt and validate the prototype.
The results include a shared conceptual framework, an open-access glossary and guidelines, and scalable co-design models, resources that aim to inform inclusive educational and community practices while promoting international collaboration, equity and cognitive diversity in spatial learning.
The project also includes two online seminars on inclusion, sound and space, scheduled for February 25th 2026 (Spatial thinking, teaching and inclusion) and March 3rd 2026 (Participation, landscapes and multisensory experiences). More information is available in the poster.
