The event, organized by the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), brought together 15 multidisciplinary teams tasked with analyzing a large public dataset containing information extracted from electronic health records of patients admitted to intensive care units to solve complex clinical questions. Specifically, the work carried out enabled the emulation of a major clinical trial using "real-world" data and Causal Artificial Intelligence methods.
Giovanni Angelotti, a SUPSI PhD student at IDSIA USI-SUPSI, presented the work during the Intensive Care Innovation Forum, held in Milan from February 6 to 8.
