E. Pavoni - Towards a future as interaction designer

Edoardo, 23, is a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication student specializing in media and interaction design. He has not yet finished his studies but is considering enrolling in SUPSI's Master of Arts in Interaction Design program. In the future he would like to do competitive multi- and cross-media projects, ideally working in the radio-TV industry.
Why did you choose the Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication at SUPSI?
Before embarking on the Bachelor, I followed a training course in computer science, but this did not allow me to fully express my creativity. For this reason, I decided to move towards an education more in line with my interests. A decisive factor in my choice of SUPSI was undoubtedly the dynamic approach offered by the training course and certainly also the positive feedback from those who had already completed the Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication.
What is the strength of your Bachelor's program?
Undoubtedly, the integration of theory and practice that pervades the entire training course, preparing us to manage concrete projects. In addition to theoretical classroom lectures, the program includes workshops, laboratories and experiences with real clients, offering the opportunity to approach the world of work through direct confrontation with stakeholders and projects in the area. This approach encourages interactivity, hands-on learning and discussion with different professionals and disciplines. A key element is collaboration: I had the opportunity to work in heterogeneous teams, learning to interact with people from different backgrounds, always keeping the focus on the goals to be achieved.
What do you like the most about this educational path?
Creating projects, both during workshops and in the labs, is what I enjoy the most: these are definitely challenging and intense moments, but also incredibly valuable.
The workshops are highly educational and provide an opportunity to test myself. One of my challenges was type design: I participated in a week-long workshop on this topic and, much to my surprise, created my first font, which I might use or adapt for a future project.
The labs are equally essential because they allow us to work on projects independently, with the guidance of industry professionals. In one of them, I created MentAI, an awareness campaign on mental health. The project consists of a series of animated posters that aim to visually represent certain mental health conditions. In this context, I had the opportunity to apply different techniques, creating a synergy between graphic design and interaction design. Indeed, I believe that the integration of both areas can foster greater communicative efficiency in design.
What advice would you give to those considering applying for the same Bachelor's degree?
I would recommend being curious, determined and having a spirit of initiative. Since this course is strongly practice-oriented, it is essential to deepen the theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom independently. In order to realise a quality project, it is essential to keep an open mind, explore new ideas and constantly exchange ideas with both lecturers and external professionals. Furthermore, dialogue with fellow students is equally important, as mutual comparison enriches and stimulates personal and professional growth.
