The award celebrates excellence in transportation-related research and features competing researchers engaged in European projects who have demonstrated proven impacts in their field. The competition serves as a showcase for some of the best European innovation and research, and encourages the identification of current and future leaders in their field.
"This award is an important milestone in my mixed industrial-academic career, with a strong focus on railway research. It all started more than 20 years ago with my dissertation on the ERTMS/ETCS system, used in Italy for High Speed lines, in collaboration with Ansaldo (now Hitachi Rail)," comments Prof. Francesco Flammini, SUPSI Researcher at the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IDSIA USI-SUPSI). "Although my research today covers several areas, this award is an additional motivation to provide my contribution for safer, socially inclusive and environmentally friendly transportation, key factors for a sustainable future for our children and us."
