Special educational needs concern a heterogeneous set of conditions, whether stable or temporary, that require special attention. As of 2021, the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) are working on a joint project entitled "Special Educational Needs - Strategies for Inclusion in the Universities of Southern Switzerland" (SEN-SI), supported by swissuniversities, the umbrella organisation of Swiss university schools, as part of a four-year federal programme 2021-2024.
The aim is to develop, implement and evaluate a new set of measures to support students with special educational needs by introducing innovative and diversity-friendly teaching methods and technologies into Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes to ensure a high-quality university education for all and an increasingly inclusive environment.
