A. Nese - L’istruzione può cambiare la vita delle persone
SUPSI Image Focus
Becoming a high school teacher and transferring her knowledge to the younger generation. This is the goal of Alessia, a biology student enrolled in the SUPSI Baccalaureate Teaching Diploma. A passion for teaching and a desire to learn guide her on her training path.
Why did you choose this course of study?
I firmly believe that education can change people's lives. It is this passion for teaching and the desire to learn constantly that led me to enrol in the training programme offered by the Department of Education and Learning / University of Teacher Education (DFA/ASP) of SUPSI. During the course you acquire both the theoretical teaching knowledge and the practical experience necessary to learn and develop the fundamental skills of this profession. Through alternating study and practice, students learn to plan effective lessons, to respond to the needs of students, and to reflect critically on their own teaching strategies, thus building a solid basis for dealing with the complexity of the teaching profession.
Theory, but not only. This training also includes important practical work in the field...
The part of this course that I find most instructive but also most exciting is the practicum. The DFA/ASP assigns each trainee teacher a limited assignment or professional practice; I have the great opportunity to have a limited assignment, which allows me to teach two classes independently, counting on the support and supervision of an experienced teacher who guides and accompanies me along the training path. This fieldwork allows me to experiment and put into practice the theory learnt during the training courses and above all encourages a valuable exchange of knowledge and skills with experienced teachers.
Can you tell us an anecdote about your experiences in the classroom?
A particularly significant experience was conducting a classroom laboratory activity where we collected leaves and used the microscope to observe decomposing fungi. This allowed me to put into practice a teaching sequence designed at the DFA/ASP, concretely applying what I had learnt in theory. It was very rewarding to see how enthusiastic the students became about the activity, discovering first-hand the fundamental role of decomposers in ecosystems. This experience reinforced my belief in the importance of education that combines direct observation and practical experimentation to stimulate curiosity and meaningful learning.
Che strumenti e conoscenze hai acquisito durante questo percorso di studio? What tools and knowledge have you acquired during this course of study?
The training has enabled me to acquire fundamental tools and knowledge that complement the disciplinary background obtained during university with the specific skills required to teach. Indeed, to be a good teacher it is necessary, in addition to disciplinary knowledge, to develop teaching skills, such as designing engaging lessons, devising creative activities and developing and applying didactic methods to enable effective teaching.
