Strengthening alliances
From the very first sessions, a vision of internationality emerged that goes beyond the physical dimension, focusing on building digital connections and enhancing the potential of AI as support for communication, administrative and educational processes. A significant part of the programme involved the pleasure and honour of collaborating with experts from Kozminski University, partner of the EUonAIR alliance, who brought high-quality and in-depth contributions on the future of mobility, intercultural communication and the ethics of innovation. Their presence added further international momentum to the conference, strengthening the bond between our institutions and offering participants a privileged insight into the transformations underway within European universities.
AI yes, but responsibly
A focus on the responsible use of AI ran as a common thread through discussions and activities, emphasising the need to combine technological progress with critical reflection. This aspect was particularly appreciated by participants, who highlighted the importance of placing the person — not the algorithm — at the centre of innovation processes.
A fundamental role was also played by the practical workshops, which allowed participants to explore possible AI applications in concrete academic contexts. Activities dedicated to smart administrative workflows, the design of virtual mobility experiences and the development of collaborative networks fostered direct and hands-on exchange, generating enthusiasm and providing ideas that can be immediately transferred into institutional settings. The pragmatic approach to generative technologies was also highly valued, perceived as useful for simplifying everyday processes and supporting the work of those involved in international mobility offices.
The takeaways
The overall feedback from the conference was extremely positive. Participants emphasised the quality of the contributions, the relevance of the topics addressed and the constructive atmosphere that characterised both days. For many, the event was not only a moment of professional updating but also a valuable opportunity to strengthen collaboration among Swiss UAS, encourage open dialogue on current challenges and jointly imagine new forms of international cooperation.
For SUPSI, which considers internationalisation one of its strategic pillars, IRUAS 2025 represented an opportunity to reaffirm its active role in the digital transformation of higher education and to reinforce its position within the international academic community.
The East Campus proved to be an ideal venue for hosting such a lively exchange between technology, education and administrative practice, offering a dynamic and stimulating environment.
The conference leaves behind new ideas, contacts and development perspectives, together with the shared conviction that artificial intelligence, when used consciously, can help expand access to mobility, promote new forms of collaboration and make academic institutions even more open, inclusive and interconnected.
