The Sustainability Action Plan 2025-2028 aims to strengthen the culture of sustainability within SUPSI, in all areas of its operations. Indeed, sustainability will be integrated in training programs to meet the needs of current and future professionals, in the development of internal competencies for faculty and staff, in decarbonization-oriented campus operational management, and in research and science dissemination, both internally and locally.
Let's go in order! The Action Plan grew out of the collective work of the Sustainability Group, a group of faculty, researchers, and mandate liaisons (Basic Education, Continuing Education, and Research and Services) who are engaged in daily work on sustainability challenges, such as in particular the climate crisis, biodiversity loss, poverty, and growing imbalances and inequalities within society. swissuniversities' stance on sustainability is clear: Forges of knowledge, universities play a crucial role in the development and implementation of innovative solutions for society and are themselves drivers and protagonists of change.
In the next four years, we wish to continue the inclusion of sustainability in our Bachelor's and Master's degree programs, expanding the offering of modules or learning activities aimed at developing skills related to sustainability. We also wish to work on Advanced studies courses in Continuing Education, promoting a proactive attitude among participants. In the field of research, we intend to invest in transdisciplinarity, which is increasingly considered by international policy makers as the most effective approach to address the global challenges that characterize contemporary societies and add the Sustainable Development Goals defined in the context of the 2030 Agenda. Last but not least, we wish to pursue initiatives related to the environmentally and economically responsible use of resources and to be an inclusive place of study and work, capable of enhancing the potential of each.
To achieve these goals, it will be necessary to review our daily habits and harness all our creativity to devise new ways of working, researching and studying together. Only then can we build a more sustainable university. We are happy to share these goals with you, which we hope will lead to concrete ideas and actions for a better and more just future!
