We discussed the topic with Alberto Stival, co-founder and President of ALMA Impact AG, member of the Scientific Committee of the Certified Responsible Leader SAQ course.
How does responsible leadership bring value to organizations?
Responsible leadership creates value on multiple levels. On the one hand, it promotes a healthier organizational climate based on trust and transparency. On the other hand, it contributes to business sustainability and resilience, helping the organization make decisions that will have positive impacts on social, environmental, and economic aspects. When we think of the acronym ESG (environmental, social, and governance), we tend to consider these elements solely as issues to be addressed for ethical or moral reasons, whereas in my opinion they are relevant components for any organization, including from an economic and risk management perspective. For example, what company would not like to have a greater ability to attract talent, innovate, or build strong relationships with stakeholders?
What is the role of responsible leadership in today's context? In practice: what does it mean to be a “responsible leader” today?
Today, being a responsible leader means knowing how to lead with awareness and integrity in a complex and interconnected world. It means being able to make decisions that do not only look at the short term or immediate profit, but that take into account the well-being of people, the environment, and society in the medium and long term. A responsible leader is also a facilitator: they promote participation, listen to different perspectives, and take responsibility for their actions and their impact.
What feedback have you received most often from those who have completed the course?
Many tell us that it has been a “transformative” journey. The most common feedback is that the course has changed the way they see their role as leaders, offering new tools, but above all new insights. Some also emphasize the value of interacting with other professionals and the quality of the teachers. In short, the course leaves a deep mark, both personally and professionally, and both the participants themselves and the organizations they work for benefit from it.
