From 10 June 2026, Swiss academic institutions will benefit from a new ‘read-and-publish’ agreement with Springer Nature, facilitated by swissuniversities. SUPSI is also part of this initiative, reinforcing its commitment to Open Science and the free dissemination of research.
The new agreement, negotiated by swissuniversities as part of the ‘Big Deal Negotiations’, represents a further step forward in Switzerland’s national Open Access strategy. Thanks to the inclusion of the Gold Open Access portfolio, SUPSI researchers can publish in open access in a wide range of Springer Nature journals, whilst also benefiting from read access to the publisher’s content. Full details of the agreement, including terms and coverage, are available on the website of the Swiss Academic Libraries Consortium, which serves as the official point of reference for contractual and operational matters, as well as on the swissuniversities information pages.
For Swiss universities of applied sciences, including SUPSI, the agreement provides a licence tailored to the needs of these institutions, covering both access and publication, with specific conditions governing both publication and the use of content. This model nevertheless supports the transition to Open Access, maintaining a balance between accessibility and financial sustainability whilst offering concrete opportunities to share research findings openly.
The agreement forms part of SUPSI’s Open Science initiatives, which bring together guidelines, tools and services to support researchers.
