There are 2,397 applications for admission to the 2025/2026 academic year for degree courses offered in Ticino by the four SUPSI departments, compared to 2,487 recorded last year in the same period. The slight decline in total applications is due to the fact that some courses are not being offered.
Among the positive indications emerging from the data is the keen interest in the Master programs offered by SUPSI:
- Master in Specialised Pedagogy and Inclusive Didactics: 65 applications, +41%;
- Master in Engineering: 104, +40%;
- Master in Interaction Design: 52, +37%;
- Master's Degree in Business Administration: 65, +30%.
This academic year also sees the return of the Master in Nursing, which has recorded 24 applications, 6 of which are from the rest of the country.

The applications for admission were followed by an evaluation process that determined the suitability of the candidates' dossiers and allowed for the creation of rankings that were particularly useful for selecting students for limited-enrollment or programmed courses. A total of 1,348 freshmen have been admitted and will follow the professional university training offered in Ticino in the four departments of SUPSI.
According to Daniela Willi-Piezzi, Director of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies at SUPSI: "The interest shown in our courses again this year confirms the great daily commitment of all our teachers, colleagues, and local partners in supporting our students along their path of personal and professional growth. It also represents a clear incentive to continue investing in the development and innovation of our educational offerings. In this sense, we will continue our work this year to further strengthen the interdisciplinary and transformative skills of our graduates, which are essential for them to enter the rapidly changing world of work with the necessary versatility and flexibility."
Over 6,000 students throughout Switzerland
In addition to the figures mentioned above, there are those of the three schools affiliated with SUPSI (Accademia Teatro Dimitri, Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana – University of Music, Fernfachhochschule Schweiz) and the Bachelor degree in Physiotherapy offered at the Landquart campus.
In this new academic year, the number of freshmen across SUPSI has risen to 2,234, an increase of 4% compared to 2024/2025. A total of 6,287 students will attend one of the 33 Bachelor’s, 19 Master’s, and Diploma programs offered on a full-time, part-time, or parallel to professional activity basis, 3,822 of whom will be enrolled in the four departments in Ticino.
Career opportunities remain the main motivation for choosing SUPSI
Among the main reasons that influenced the decision to enroll at SUPSI, almost three out of four candidates cited career opportunities. This is followed by practical orientation, field of study, reputation of the school, university degree, and the possibility of combining study with professional activities and other commitments.
The survey conducted among enrolled students confirms their interest in the professional university education offered by SUPSI, its practical orientation and links with the world of work, as well as its flexible educational offering, which allows students to balance their studies with professional, family, and personal commitments.
