Integrated management and control measures - IM
The management of vectors is closely linked to their ecology, the nuisance they cause, and the potential risk of disease transmission related to their spread in the territory. There is no single method of management; only an integrated system can lead to successful results. Research, therefore, focuses on evaluating the most effective and sustainable strategies and techniques for controlling vectors.
An essential aspect of effective control is the active involvement of stakeholders, such as citizens, through extensive awareness campaigns or incorporating the issue into the school system. In addition to specialized operators, the system benefits from the participation of local municipalities and regional civil protection units. At the institutional level, organizations representing public health, animal health, tourism, land management, and natural protection areas are also involved. This approach reflects the One Health concept and is supported by international consultations with experts in the field and organizations such as the WHO and the IAEA.

We create, coordinate, and provide consultancy for integrated mosquito surveillance and control systems at both local (Zanzara tigre) and national (Swiss Mosquito Network) levels. We also offer consultancy to federal authorities, European projects, and international organizations. These systems are tailored to address both the nuisance caused by mosquitoes and the potential risk of disease transmission, depending on the mosquito species.

We provide independent evaluation of the effectiveness of existing mosquito control products (biological, chemical, and mechanical) on the market and collaborate with public and private entities to develop new mosquito control techniques (e.g., sterile male technique).

Public awareness is considered a crucial part of the integrated control system. We organize events to engage with citizens (informational evenings in municipalities, public events, etc.), collaborate with the educational system to create teaching programs, and develop educational games and general informational tools focused on mosquitoes.
