The Institute
The Institute of Applied Sustainability to the Built Environment (ISAAC), part of the Department of Environment Constructions and Design, actively promotes the energy transition toward a zero-emissions society through an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach. Key areas of focus include photovoltaic characterization and reliability, building-integrated solar solutions, intelligent renewable energy management within the grid, and the enhancement and maintenance of building energy efficiency. The Institute engages in applied research, provides specialized services, and contributes to both Undergraduate and Graduate Studies, and Continuing Education.

With the only ISO 17025-accredited photovoltaic laboratory in Switzerland, the Institute supports the photovoltaic industry by developing new testing and characterization methods to determine the efficiency, lifespan, and reliability of photovoltaic modules.

The Institute comprises two competence centers:
Centre for Development and Cooperation (CDC)
The SUPSI Centre for Development and Cooperation is active in the four institutional mandates: undergraduate and graduate studies, continuing education, applied research and services, addressing partners such as NGOs, public and private institutions and social enterprises.
Radon Competence Centre
The Radon Competence Centre studies radon gas, making its knowledge available to professionals, building owners and interested parties in general.
