Analysis of the effect of vibration on structures

Vibrations that propagate through a structure can cause significant damage, generating potential hazardous situations. It is therefore critical to understand how vibration can affect both the stability and integrity of structures in order to ensure their safety.
Vibrations can be generated from different sources, such as construction site activities (demolition with jackhammers, rock excavation, building demolition, use of construction machinery and equipment, etc.), or from rail or road traffic.
If the eigenfrequencies of structural components coincide with those induced by vibration, the effect of resonance can occur. The eigenfrequencies of structural components are typically between 10 and 60 Hz. Therefore, vibrations whose frequencies are less than 60 Hz and more so those less than 30 Hz are particularly dangerous.
If necessary, it is therefore essential to comply with the limits provided by the VSS 40312 standard (expressed in terms of speed), which, if not exceeded, allow us to be able to guarantee the safety and durability of constructions.
