She joined SUPSI in 2015 as a scientific assistant and has since become a lecturer-researcher, developing expertise that exemplary integrates restoration, materials diagnostics, applied research and academic coordination.
Over the years, she has led and contributed to numerous nationally and internationally funded projects – including Mortar technology and construction history at Müstair Monastery, The convent, the mortar piece and the building site, Stucco decoration across Europe and the SUPSI Open Heritage Samples Archive – consolidating a strong network of collaborations with European academic and cultural institutions.
Her work is distinguished by a rigorous and interdisciplinary approach, combined with a strong commitment to educational quality.
She has been responsible for several modules within the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes and designed and coordinated the course Sustainability in the conservation-restoration practice of the Swiss Conservation-Restoration Campus, which was awarded the “SUPSI Teaching Innovation Award” 2025.
In recent months, she has also worked alongside Giacinta Jean – Head of the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes until 2025 and full professor of History and Techniques of Conservation and Restoration – in management activities, staff selection, admissions, quality analysis and operational coordination, contributing to the strengthening of internal processes and collaborations.
The appointment of Dr. Marta Caroselli represents an important step in ensuring strategic vision and further development of the degree programmes in Conservation and Restoration within the Department of Environment Constructions and Design SUPSI, at a time of major transformation for the cultural heritage sector and for university education. Her cross-disciplinary experience and her ability to combine research, teaching and management will represent added value for the entire Department.
Giacinta Jean will now be involved in two projects of national relevance: CH needs CH – Cultural Heritage needs Continuous Care, part of the NRP 81 Baukultur programme, which aims to promote shared practices across Switzerland for the regular maintenance of built heritage, and Climate Resilient Built Heritage, funded by the Federal Office of Culture, which focuses on evaluating conservation strategies that address the new challenges posed by climate change.
The Management of the Department of Environment Constructions and Design SUPSI congratulates Marta Caroselli and wishes her and the entire team every success in their work. It also extends its sincere thanks and deep gratitude to professor Giacinta Jean for the invaluable and decisive contribution she has made over many years to the growth and consolidation of the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in Conservation and Restoration.
