SUPSI is among the institutions honored with the SAMUELE ULLL Award 2026, the European award dedicated to significant initiatives in university lifelong learning. The award ceremony took place on June 5, 2026, during the eucen conference in Cagliari, where the winning universities presented their case studies selected for the SAMUELE Compendium of Case Studies.
The SAMUELE project—Self-Assessment Model for Universities Embracing Lifelong Learning in Europe—was launched with the goal of strengthening the quality, transparency, and implementation of lifelong learning in European universities. The project offers self-assessment and reflection tools to help universities understand, improve, and better structure their lifelong learning strategies.
The SUPSI case study, authored by Sara Benedetti, Florinda Sauli, and Nadia Bregoli, presents the Anchored Lifelong Learning model developed within SUPSI’s continuing education program. The model highlights the unique characteristics of Swiss university continuing education and the role of universities of applied sciences, focusing on advanced training for professionals as an anchor point from which to progressively expand course offerings, target audiences, and modes of access.
The innovation of the SUPSI model lies in conceiving lifelong learning not as a collection of individual educational offerings, but as an integrated ecosystem capable of supporting individuals along increasingly long, complex, and nonlinear professional and personal trajectories. The model includes certified and modular programs, short courses for rapid skill updates, customized programs co-designed with companies and organizations, and community-oriented initiatives such as conferences, events, podcasts, and educational content.
This recognition confirms SUPSI’s contribution to the European debate on lifelong learning and highlights a vision of continuing education as a strategic lever for employability, innovation, inclusion, and active participation in society.
Through this model, SUPSI reinforces its commitment to promoting a culture of lifelong learning capable of responding to changes in the workplace, regions, and communities, while maintaining a strong connection to its mission as a professional applied university.
