Being born and raised in the digital age is not enough to use technologies and media consciously and surf the Internet safely. It is therefore important to be accompanied towards the discovery of the digital world from the earliest stages of school life: this requires access to tools and resources, but above all competent and trained teachers.
This is the challenge taken up by the school in Collina d'Oro, which, with the support of the municipality and accompanied by the Department of Education and Learning / University of Teacher Education (DFA/ASP) of SUPSI and the Centro di risorse didattiche e digitali (CERDD) of the Dipartimento dell'educazione, della cultura e dello sport (DECS), launched EDUCO, a two-year digital education project in schools in September 2023. This was a first in Ticino because never before had such an education involving an entire municipal school been proposed.
With the support of experts from SUPSI's Laboratory media and MINT and CERDD, teachers were offered five workshops dedicated to digital education involving classes throughout the school year. The proposals range from an introduction to computational thinking, to the world of media, through natural sciences to the discovery of programming.
Common denominator of the workshops are certain key elements that highlight both their strength and potential: collaboration, dialogue between digital and physical and integration with school subjects. Proof that digital, if used well, can become an excellent opportunity for doing and discovering together, capable of offering the school multiple opportunities.
