The school is a privileged place in which pupils, as well as teachers, have the opportunity to experience the fundamental elements of democratic living, both positive and negative: knowing how to argue and respect the opinions of others, knowing and learning to respect customs and traditions that differ from one's own, being able to determine and share the organisation of work in the classroom are just some of the democratic skills that the school has the opportunity to develop in the citizens of tomorrow. 

The second volume in the Democracy and Schools series - collecting the ideas that have emerged from the activities and interventions of the second International Day of Democracy celebrated at the Department of Education and Learning / University of Teacher Education on 15 September 2022 - offers some insights into the meaning and appropriateness of creating democratic and participatory spaces within school contexts. 

Divided into two parts, the first presents the theoretical foundations of teaching democracy and citizenship at school, while the second proposes experiences and practical projects developed in a number of schools in the canton.
