Just like a novel in which the narrator chooses different ways to tell the story, architecture can be interpreted and observed from different points of view. Depending on our position in space, we can describe what the surrounding environment evokes in us. To do this, we will use the language of architecture through models and drawings.

How is the atmosphere of an interior space designed? Using a 1:10 scale model, we will experiment with different combinations of colours, materials and images to find the ones that best characterise the space and the people who live in it.

Discover what happens behind the scenes by talking with students who experience our Campus every day. During the tour, you can explore the spaces of the Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication and engage in open conversation with those who study there: stories, advice and first-hand experiences from those who chose this path before you.

Through an experiment with lighting, composition and camera angles, we will have the opportunity to approach podcast production by simulating the entire process, using illuminated backdrops, microphones and mixers to create engaging and informative content in an audiovisual space equipped with state-of-the-art equipment.

The workshop is carried out in collaboration with Wetube, an open space of RSI (Swiss Radio and Television), where the most creative digital minds can create, collaborate and learn together.

We will take you on a fascinating journey between art and science divided into two parts. On the one hand, we will explore works of art with non-invasive tools (optivisor, UV lamp, portable microscope and thermal camera) to reveal details invisible to the naked eye. On the other hand, we will dive into the microscopic world of materials: we will observe small samples in polished and thin section under different bench microscopes, uncovering the history, degradation and conservation of decorated surfaces. A unique opportunity to discover the secrets hidden in artworks.

We will guide you through the captivating world of traditional wall decoration techniques. In the Conservation-Restoration atelier, we will discover step by step how frescoes, wall paintings, sgraffiti, stuccoes and scagliola are created. We will handle materials, experiment with original techniques and understand how this knowledge is essential for those involved in the restoration and conservation of artistic heritage.

Dive into the dynamic world of civil engineering and put your creativity to the test. Become an engineer for a day: design and build mini masonry and steel structures, bringing your ideas to life and letting curiosity guide you. Watch how constructions react to ground motion through a live seismic simulation using real research instruments and experimental testing. A practical and engaging experience to discover how engineering turns imagination into safety and comfort for everyone.

Challenge yourself and discover how one of the most fascinating symbols of civil engineering is created: the bridge. Become an engineer for a day, designing and building bridge models with wooden sticks and ropes, where every choice matters to ensure balance, stability and resistance. Analyse how forces are distributed and test the strength of your structure during the final load test, carried out with cutting-edge research equipment. A fun and educational experience to understand how engineering combines creativity, logic and teamwork to build the future… one bridge at a time.

We will guide you through a practical introduction to the principles of interaction design, with a focus on physical prototyping and physical computing. Through laboratory exercises, we will experiment with integrating electronic components and elements produced via digital fabrication (e.g., 3D-printed parts, laser-cut elements) and learn to work with sensors and actuators, including ultrasonic distance sensors, switches, and potentiometers. The workshop aims to highlight potential creative applications of physical interaction. A guided tour of the FabLab, the digital fabrication laboratory is also included, to introduce you with the equipment and materials supporting the Master of Arts in Interaction Design programme.

The Open Day takes place at the SUPSI Mendrisio Campus, in via Flora Ruchat-Roncati 15. The Campus is located next to the Mendrisio train station and bus terminal, and is connected to both by an underpass. Parking in the area is limited, so we recommend reaching us by public transport.
