Microbial biofilms - IM

Area of the Environmental biotechnology sector

Microorganisms in nature exist in complex systems formed by associations of different taxonomic groups: biofilms. Many biotechnological applications are based on biofilm processes in different industrial fields, ranging from food production to energy and environmental sectors. In these cases, it is necessary to develop resistant and resilient biofilms to withstand process variability. In other areas, such as healthcare, the presence of biofilms poses a problem, and their formation must be controlled or even prevented.
