Culture and territory - Institute of Design (IDe)
The “Culture and Territory” research sector of the Institute of Design explores the ways in which culture relates to and participates in the development of territories and society.
It answers questions such as: Does the openness of cultural data facilitate the work of those who protect cultural heritage? How do online communities enhance museums, libraries and archives? Do collaborative platforms such as Wikipedia succeed in representing culture around the world? Does a work of art in public space contribute to urban safety? How can an art museum better meet the needs of a visually impaired visitor? How should a workspace be modified to adapt to our new ways of working?
The “Culture and Territory” sector takes a transdisciplinary approach to social design and innovation. Its applied research produces case studies, comparative analyses and pilot projects that explore and develop responses to the needs of institutions, people and territories.
With a strong focus on issues of accessibility and sustainability, the studies have an international dimension, produce and use open data and work with communities.
