Centro competenze didattica dell’italiano lingua di scolarizzazione (DILS)
Competence Centre for the Teaching and Learning of Italian as a Language of Schooling (DILS)
Its activities include research and basic and continuous training in the teaching of Italian in the Canton of Ticino, with a focus on compulsory schooling.
The Centre promotes situated research that responds to the real needs of local schools, starting with an analysis of the current language situation in order to experiment and propose innovative and effective teaching solutions in line with the "Piano di studio della scuola dell’obbligo ticinese".
Every pupil has a different way of learning: research in education has a duty to find ways to meet their needs.
Italian and mathematics
Does the teaching of subjects at school have to proceed on parallel tracks? The joint study of Italian and mathematics shows that this is not the case at all.
Written composition and its teaching
How do pupils write at school? Study their texts to identify effective and challenging teaching strategies.
Children's literature
From illustrated books to today's fiction via children's classics: the role of the author's text in school.
Reading aloud
The value of stories: exposing pupils to reading aloud to develop a set of life skills.
Ludolinguistics
Playing with words is not only a fun pastime, but an effective way of learning Italian as a first or second language.
Reflection on language
From spontaneous to conscious use of language: the activation of metalinguistic reflection to discover grammar.
Reading and comprehension
It is not enough to decipher the written code to understand a text: the importance of investigating the reading skills of pupils and their comprehension processes.
Entering the culture of written language
Learning to read and write: one of the most difficult challenges facing the human brain.
The Italian language of today
What are the characteristics of Italian today, in general and in the context of the Canton of Ticino? Studying and describing them is indispensable for orienting teaching action.
Italian as the language of schooling
In our context, Italian is the language of communication and transmission of all knowledge. A reflection on its role is a must for more conscious teaching in all subjects.
Orality at school
How do children speak at school? Understanding childlike speech traits to improve the teaching of orality.
Mission and objectives
Innovating and improving the teaching of Italian in relation to its areas of competence and reflection on the language is the main objective of the Competence Centre for the Teaching and Learning of Italian as a Language of Schooling. This is only possible thanks to the close dialogue between research, education and actual school.
