This 5-day activity aims at offering the students the required training by combining field activities with the development of a practical project that can be accomplished in the field. This will be complemented by presentations and discussion (by the students and participants) related to topics linked to the environment under study (Lake Cadagno and its catchment area in the Piora region, Tessin).

Basic knowledge in microbiological aspects.

Activities will be conducted in English or French.
- Microbial hydrobiology: sampling and laboratory analysis of the most important microbial communities in the meromictic Lake Cadagno.
- Microbial mats: sampling in the peat bog and microsensor analysis of different microbial layers.
- Cell movement: study of the movement of one of the most important microorganisms in Lake Cadagno, PSB Chromatium okenii.
- Abiotic factors: understanding of the basics related to the physics of water.
- Seminars: presentation of scientific research by expert scientists on the topics of microbial hydrobiology.
