Interaction design - Istitute of Design (IDe)
SUPSI Image Focus
The field of interaction design is becoming increasingly important in the context of digital transformation. It represents the field of design that applies principles, methods and processes aimed at guiding and managing social, economic, cultural and production changes where there is an impact of technology.
The Interaction Design research sector conducts applied research projects that employ user-centred design methodologies to generate systemic innovation, promote the informed use of technology and foster design processes that support values such as wellbeing, participation, sharing and sustainability.
Applied research projects are carried out with public and private regional organisations and in collaboration with national and international institutions in the following field studies:
Design Thinking and User Experience Design: research on user-centered methodologies (HCD) to design new user experiences (UX) with the aim of implementing digital services and ecosystems, as well as interface solutions to support organizational, behavioral and social change.
Digital Innovation Design: development of open design practices based on methodologies, techniques and technologies where prototyping and digital fabrication facilitate the growth of digital skills in design, architecture and creative entrepreneurship;
Information Design and Data Visualization: development of visual methodologies for qualitative and quantitative research aimed at analyzing, organizing and visualizing large amounts of data; design and development of information visualization systems for research on complex phenomena (social, economic, political, technological, communicative, etc.);
Design Education and Design with Technologies:
specific and pioneering skills in the use of digital resources and tools applied to STEAM Education, access to digital knowledge (GLAM), data literacy, development of 21st century skills, co-design practices with technology and its creative use.
The research activities are conducted by integrating the specific design expertise within the research group with the technical-scientific capabilities present in various SUPSI departments. This enables the unit to provide support to the local area and to various national and international research partners in addressing digital transformation processes.
FabLab
The Institute also engages in experimental research formats and processes through the use of the innovative FabLab space, an open digital fabrication laboratory that supports digitization in the fields of architecture, construction, design, interaction and creativity. The laboratory engages with students, faculty, researchers, businesses, organizations and citizens to promote the model of open innovation and digital skills development through technology.
