Long-term Continuing Education is defined as the set of courses that award a minimum of 10 ECTS. Short-term Continuing Education refers to the set of courses that award between 1 and 9 ECTS. As a rule, the offering consists of modules of 12, 16 or 24 hours-lessons. In some cases it can be up to 80-100 lecture-hours.

The Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) is a continuing education course, the Master's degree refers more generally to basic training.

The difference between certificates of advanced studies lies in their minimum duration and thus in the number of ECTS awarded:

  • Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS), minimum duration of 10 ECTS.
  • Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS), minimum duration of 30 ECTS;
  • Master of Advanced Studies (MAS), minimum duration of 60 ECTS.

It depends on the degree recognition policies of each country. For MAS and EMBA courses, a Diploma Supplement is issued to facilitate academic and professional recognition of qualifications at international level (SUPSI issues the Diploma Supplement in a bilingual Italian-English version).
